“It was unfortunate. That was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the wrong finger,” he noted. “The action was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”
League Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
